Causing Ebola virus disease (EVD), Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF)
a disease in human beings (can be found in other mammals such as primates also),
Ebola Virus which can show its symptoms within three weeks after contacting
with the virus. The virus may be acquired by contact with fluids or blood of
the previously infected person. Bats can
become carriers of this disease without themselves being affected by it.
The common symptoms of Ebola may be a fever,
headaches, muscle pain, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, decreased
function of liver and kidneys. Some of the affected my also begin internal and
external bleeding.
This disease may spread between people and what is worse
is that the males can transmit it via Semen.
There is no specific treatment as of yet which may cure
the disease but there are some precautionary measures which may be taken in
order to save yourself and others.
Some of them may be:
- Decreasing the spread of disease from infected animals to humans. This may be done by checking such animals, and if infection is found, killing and properly disposing them.
- Using protective measures when handling meat, and cooking the mean properly.
- Washing hands properly. (especially when around affected person)
- Oral re-hydration therapy.
- This disease can kill the person affected and according to a survey it is 50% to 90% of the affected people die because of it.
- First evidenced in Sudan and Republic of Congo this disease is now the matter of concern in Africa.
